Building Permit and Inspections is a division in the Department of Public Works that provides a one-stop shop for all construction permit and inspection needs. The division reviews construction plans, issues permits, and performs the necessary inspections to ensure building projects are built safely and in compliance with state and local codes and regulations helping to create a vibrant, livable, and safe-built community. Whether you are remodeling a home, building your dream house, or constructing a high-rise building, we look forward to serving you.
This site is designed to help you navigate through the permit process for the anticipated work (project), along with the related approvals required for the project. The information contained within only applies to permits required by and issued by East Baton Rouge Parish. There may be additional permits required by various outside agencies for the work requested.
During the review process, if additional agency reviews are required, the staff will note this information on the comment section of his/her correspondence. It is the responsibility of the applicant to obtain the additional permits that may be required by other governmental agencies. DPW has attempted to streamline and clarify the process of reviewing and permitting construction projects, however new applicants, understandably, may find the procedural steps mystifying, time consuming and frustrating.
Note: Following the advice presented in this site does not guarantee issuance of a permit, since each application is unique and must be evaluated individually.
